Job Description
Position Overview
Sibanye-Stillwater is seeking a qualified professional for the role of Superintendent Geology. The main objective of this position is to evaluate and comprehend the in situ rock mass, structure, and grade, supplying reliable geological models to assist with mine design planning, resource evaluation, modelling, and surveying functions.
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will oversee risk management practices within their specialised scope, evaluate potential operational hazards, integrate risk mitigation measures, and keep the mining risk register current. Responsibilities include identifying geological enhancement opportunities, executing improvement initiatives, directing project teams to achieve deliverables, managing associated project risks, drafting straightforward schedules for project execution, and tracking and communicating schedule progress.
Operational duties involve establishing and upholding geological standards to optimise ore grades, reporting and advising on geological conditions, observations, interpretations, and plans. The role requires reviewing the maximum and optimal exploitation of the ore body alongside shaft performance. The professional will sustain and elevate the efficacy of the mineral resource team by authenticating and grading geological information, formulating structural and grade models, generating grade histograms, addressing deviant grade control practices, and preparing life-of-mine exploration and sampling strategies for operational sign-off.
Further duties include analysing geological data to forecast upcoming resources, evaluating targeted resource viability, validating derived outcomes, flagging problematic reserves, halting hazardous or non-compliant methods, enforcing administrative systems, and delivering efficiency reports. The employee will supply contributions to life-of-mine, five-year, one-year, and monthly planning, participate in grade equation compilation for ore flow statements, formulate site-specific guidelines for sampling, mapping, logging, and exploration, log boreholes into databases, map underground exposures, update structural and geological software models, and enter data into MRM and software databases. Additional tasks involve designing and executing diamond drilling programmes, requesting specialist support when necessary, guiding department teams and systems, resolving technical challenges, contributing to daily departmental briefings, allocating personnel, equipment, and materials, and maintaining shaft schedules.
