Role Overview

AngloGold Ashanti is looking for a Senior Specialist, Metallurgy to deliver robust practical technical assistance to regional plants across Africa. Reporting to the Director of Metallurgy for Africa, this position offers the opportunity to advise operational sites, assist in the development of growth initiatives, and collaborate with external industry partners. The successful candidate will handle daily plant assistance, expansion projects, and asset enhancement initiatives, engaging directly with general managers and business unit executives.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver specialized metallurgical engineering services to regional African mining locations in coordination with the Director of Metallurgy. Supply expert technical counsel to various business units and functional areas. Contribute advanced technical guidance toward African expansion programs. Assist with value-adding asset enhancement initiatives throughout their complete lifecycle from initial conception to final execution. Deliver cross-border technical assistance where specialized expertise is necessary. Cultivate and maintain robust professional relationships with equipment manufacturers, academic institutions, research bodies, and commercial vendors. Participate actively within the technical group by exchanging knowledge with colleagues. Demonstrate and advocate for safe operational practices while participating in safety incident reviews as required. Furnish process option insights to capital and expansion teams. Assist operational locations in capturing additional economic value via asset optimization schemes.

Required Qualifications

Possession of a tertiary qualification in process engineering, chemical engineering, metallurgical engineering, or an equivalent discipline. Minimum of eight years of professional background within the mining sector. Comprehensive operational familiarity spanning the complete minerals value chain encompassing mining, geology, geotechnics, metallurgy, infrastructure, tailings disposal, and project development. Preparedness to undertake substantial business travel. Background in production management alongside a proven portfolio in business optimization and transformational change management is considered beneficial. Strong metallurgical expertise coupled with medium-term planning capabilities, strategic analysis proficiency, and cross-functional communication talents.
