Job Description
Job Summary
Absa Bank is seeking a dedicated professional to head the agile creation, rollout, ongoing refinement, and evolution of enterprise-wide technical offerings and solutions, encompassing complete stack engineering and ownership within less complicated settings.
Product and Technical Strategy Direction
The incumbent will partner alongside the Chief Information Officer and internal business product leaders to formulate comprehensive technical strategies. This involves acting as the primary liaison for executive business stakeholders, maintaining total accountability for end-to-end service delivery without outsourcing associated risks, and utilizing design thinking methodologies to deliver architecturally sound solutions. Furthermore, the role requires creating comprehensive service design blueprints that align seamlessly with short-term, medium-term, and long-term organizational goals, alongside collaborating tightly with technology value chains such as the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Security Officer to determine optimal cost-to-value pathways.
DevOps and Infrastructure Management
Candidates will leverage advanced architecture knowledge to oversee all development outputs across multiple squads, applying familiarity with virtualization, containerization, cloud environments, and serverless technologies. Responsibilities include building automated testing frameworks, orchestrating continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, and guiding complex coding practices encompassing parallel processing, asynchronous programming, and domain-driven design across diverse programming languages. Additionally, the position mandates managing release pipelines for optimal customer impact, maintaining long-term application health, and coaching senior developers to elevate technical competencies.
Delivery, People, and Financial Governance
The successful applicant will deploy agile methodologies to resource and manage squad-based teams across operational and change portfolios. People management duties involve attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining diverse talent while fostering a high-performance, self-directed team culture through regular sprint routines and coaching. On the financial and governance front, the individual will maintain total accountability for risk management, enforce enterprise governance frameworks, guide vendor selection processes, negotiate enterprise-grade contracts, and ensure that all deliverables are achieved strictly on time and within budget constraints.
