Job Description

Role Overview

Absa Bank is seeking a strategic financial leader to deliver commercial challenge and financial oversight to the Business Banking Technology & Digital division in Sandton. The successful professional will ensure that technology investments, architecture choices, and infrastructure expenditures translate into measurable business value. Responsibilities include providing comprehensive financial control across cloud computing, software licensing, operational run costs, infrastructure, vendor arrangements, and strategic change initiatives, while transforming complex technical data into clear commercial insights for executive decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent will direct financial planning, forecasting, and performance tracking across the technology portfolio, establishing clear transparency regarding expenditure drivers and distinguishing between operational run expenses and transformation investments. Duties involve partnering with technology executives to evaluate business cases for cloud migration, infrastructure modernisation, automation, and digital platforms by assessing cash flows, present values, and return metrics, alongside monitoring long-term benefits realisation.

Additional focal areas include implementing cloud economics and FinOps principles to optimise consumption-based pricing, driving application portfolio economics to identify underutilised systems and support rationalisation, and providing robust commercial challenge on software vendor contracts and licensing models. The role demands advanced data analytics to build executive dashboards via Power BI and Excel, bridging the gap between technology spending, performance metrics, and ultimate financial outcomes through trusted business partnering.

Candidate Requirements

Candidates must possess a relevant postgraduate degree and professional qualifications in Financial Sciences. Essential technical and commercial competencies encompass technology financial management, budgeting, investment appraisal, total cost of ownership modelling, capitalisation principles, and vendor analysis. Strongly preferred capabilities include familiarity with Technology Business Management frameworks, cloud economics, application cost-allocation methods, software licencing dynamics, and the technology investment lifecycle, complemented by a working understanding of digital platforms, automation economics, and modern cloud architectures.
