AngloGold Ashanti requires a seasoned technical professional to oversee mechanical designs for upcoming studies and growth initiatives. In this newly created position, the successful candidate acts as the internal authority guaranteeing that installations remain secure, functional, and cost-effective. Responsibilities span the entire lifecycle of a project, ranging from initial concepts to final operational handover, collaborating closely with external partners and site personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Provide specialized mechanical oversight during studies, evaluate third-party engineering blueprints for compliance, and assist brownfield expansion initiatives during implementation. Compare alternative technologies to select optimal site solutions, critique over-engineered specifications, and manage hazard evaluations. Assess financial and schedule implications of vendor equipment, maintain rigorous international standards, and mentor less experienced engineering staff across multiple jurisdictions.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and hold mandatory professional registration with ECSA. Eight to ten years of relevant industry practice in heavy capital sectors is required, including a minimum of five years functioning in senior or principal capacities within client-side engineering management. Familiarity with gold or general mining operations provides a distinct advantage.

Work Environment

The position is stationed in Johannesburg and involves frequent travel to operating mines. Personnel must adhere to strict safety regulations and foster collaborative relationships globally.
