Role Overview
AngloGold Ashanti requires a seasoned specialist to lead electrical strategy, protection, and delivery for key mining initiatives. As the internal authority on power systems, the appointee will steer technical direction from initial feasibility stages through to final handover, collaborating closely with external consulting firms, the Director of Studies, and operational site personnel to ensure optimal asset performance, safety, and cost efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will oversee electrical engineering inputs across all project phases, directing external technical partners and scrutinizing schematics for optimal safety and value. Responsibilities include advising on brownfield expansion efforts, evaluating technical alternatives, eliminating excessive specifications, and scrutinizing infrastructure blueprints covering high-voltage substations, distribution networks, motor control systems, and variable frequency drives. Further duties involve assessing financial and schedule impacts of vendor packages, coordinating with multinational operations, mentoring emerging and seasoned technical staff, and applying operational insights to refine future facility blueprints.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants must hold a university degree in electrical engineering alongside mandatory registration as a Professional Engineer via ECSA. Candidates need eight to ten years of relevant industrial background within heavy resource extraction sectors, focusing on power distribution and capital-intensive ventures, with a minimum of five years operating at an advanced or senior capacity. Preferred attributes encompass gold extraction exposure, comprehensive expertise regarding high-voltage grids and mill drives, adherence to functional safety regulations, risk-oriented design oversight, and exceptional cross-cultural collaboration capabilities.
