Job Description
Position Overview
Sibanye-Stillwater is seeking an underground fitter to execute planned and general maintenance activities across shafts and associated machinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, fixing, exchanging, setting up, and keeping mechanical parts in optimal working condition.
Core Duties and Functions
The incumbent will evaluate machinery before and after servicing, specifically handling equipment such as pumps, underground locomotives, and loaders. Responsibilities include maintaining a secure workspace through strict adherence to safety and occupational health guidelines, filling out daily administrative logs alongside work tickets, attending to sudden equipment failures, executing tool modifications on hydraulic equipment, and thoroughly examining, servicing, fixing, and rebuilding mechanical apparatuses.
Additional functions involve supporting the setup of systems designed to elevate maintenance standards and diminish unexpected operational stoppages. The role requires clarifying performance targets for personnel, guiding staff to maintain strict alignment with established guidelines, helping implement measurement systems to track repair quality, and supplying technical guidance to other departments. The appointee will coordinate with oversight bodies during evaluations, assist in forming multidisciplinary teams for foundational upkeep, contribute to medium-term maintenance strategies, and coordinate with planning personnel to prioritize audit findings for correction.
Furthermore, the position entails monitoring adherence to upkeep timelines, supervising major interventions, compiling registers for critical spares, and distributing human and mechanical resources effectively. The candidate will verify equipment information within enterprise resource software, keep technical documentation current, formulate performance benchmarks, and refine maintenance task lists. Participation in technological forums, compiling reports, contributing to new machinery specifications, and executing reliability-centered maintenance reviews prior to commissioning are also required.
Personnel must champion organizational culture values, support environmental and social governance frameworks, adhere to safety, health, and environmental guidelines, execute risk evaluations, maintain quality management systems, and drive operational excellence while minimizing production costs.
Background and Competencies
Applicants must hold a Matric, Grade 12, or N3 school certificate alongside a recognized trade test certification. Candidates need a minimum of four years of background handling repairs on clear and dirty water pumps, locomotives, hydraulics, and loaders, coupled with two to five years of exposure within a workshop setting. A strong familiarity with mining machinery and applicable safety protocols is essential. Candidates must pass a medical examination for the designated workspace, possess a clean security verification record, and hold a valid driver’s license if required.
